Amanda Nunes feels a win over Cyborg will make her the GOAT of women’s MMA

On December 29, in a fight that is expected to serve as the main event of UFC 232 in Las Vegas, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will challenge the fearsome Cris Cyborg for the UFC women’s featherweight title.

If Nunes wins this fight, she will become one of just three fighters in UFC history to wear gold in two divisions concurrently — the other two being Conor McGregor, who held the featherweight and lightweight titles simultaneously in 2016, and Daniel Cormier, who currently owns the light heavyweight and heavyweight titles.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Amanda Nunes compared her fight with Cyborg to Cormier and McGregor’s second title wins.

“I believe that going up a weight class already is a big achievement because several athletes are not willing to face that type of challenge,” she said. “Going up and proving to myself I can do it and make history already is a big achievement. What Daniel and Conor did were great achievements, no matter if it was [against] a dominant champion or not. Fighting in a heavier weight class is a big achievement on its own. But when someone is so dominant, it does have a different taste, of course.”

Whatever the case, Amanda Nunes feels that a win over Cyborg, who has not lost a fight 13 years, will make her the greatest female fighter in MMA history.

“For sure [a win makes me the GOAT],” she said. “That’s the reason why I made this decision to move up a division. I want fans to remember me like that. Winning on December 29, I won’t ever leave fans’ heads, that’s for sure. Achieving that, being the only Brazilian woman to become two-division champion… The only woman, the only Brazilian, will be a huge achievement. It’s a big fight, a fight that will make history, and I will come out victorious one more time.”

Do you think Amanda Nunes can topple the seemingly unstoppable Cris Cyborg at UFC 232?
