If you thought that ‘The Spider’ was done when it came to MMA…then you better think again. The once middleweight king still has some fight left.
After Anderson Silva received his one-year suspension from USADA recently, the time frame for the said suspension to end now lands in October.
And with that in mind, Silva plans his return. Although he isn’t sure exactly when it will come as he told the Inquisitr.
“I don’t know, because I’m working hard on my projects in the movies and my company, Spider Kick, my bottom line, license, everything. I talked to my team about that and hopefully, I’ll come back very soon. I don’t know when, I don’t have the [exact] date, but maybe next year, I come back to fight.”
Now at age 43, the big question is for how much longer can Silva compete for?
Well, he laid it out for us plain and simple.
“I like UFC. The big [part of my] story [is] inside UFC, inside the Zuffa company. Of course, everything’s changed inside the company, but I have a good relationship with UFC. My goal is: finish my contract and finish my career.
[If] this does not happen, of course, I [will] go to [a] different company and make [a] good deal for me and for [the] company [to] continue my legacy. I have three more fights in UFC. I’m very happy. I have nothing bad to say about UFC… But I love UFC. Hopefully, I finish my career in UFC.”
The Spider sees at least three more fight left for himself. Which then leads to but who would they be against?
The seemingly most obvious choice at the moment is his fellow former champion and ruler of their era, Georges St-Pierre.
As times have changed over the years, Silva is now sort of the one looking for the GSP fight rather than the other way around as GSP is only looking to take big impactful fights and isn’t really interested in Silva right now.
However, the Brazilian icon is interested in St-Pierre.
“Yeah, absolutely. Georges is the great name in Canada, I’m the big name in Brazil… I believe everybody in this sport [would] like to see Georges and Anderson Silva in a super fight, you know?”
Back in their primes, Silva vs St-Pierre was the super fight of all super fights. It was MMA’s version of Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao or Muhammad Ali vs Mike Tyson.
Now several years later…the option for the fight is still there despite having lost some luster.
