One of the most talked about fights in MMA at present is a possible flyweight superfight between divisional king Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, and reigning UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. As the former mentor of the bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw, the probably-retired Urijah Faber is watching on intently as this possible scrap edges toward fruition.
While Faber is a little more interested in Dillashaw’s options at bantamweight, he does believe Dillashaw can make the flyweight division’s 125-pound.
“TJ, for the longest time, he was having trouble putting weight on,” Faber recently told Submission Radio (h/t MMAFighting.com). “He was 143 when he first in the gym and it was a struggle to get bigger and we talked about going down to 125 for a long time. I’m interested to see it I guess but I’m more interested in the 135-pound division as a whole. I’d like to see him defending and of course I’d like to see Cody [Garbrandt] get that rematch or some of the other guys that are up-and-coming in the division.”
If this fight between Dillashaw and Mighty Mouse does occur, Faber believes the former would probably come out on top based on his incredible wrestling skill. That said, he believes it probably be a close fight either way.
“I would probably lean towards TJ, just because I remember what happened with Dominick Cruz when he fought TJ and there was a little bit of wrestling involved. TJ’s actually a Division I wrestler, a very good wrestler. It would be a close fight, absolutely. It could go either way, but my insight tells me he would get the win.”
