“[Dana White’s] sense of reality is gone, it’s gone. It’s shot. It’s absolutely shot. It’s scary. Now he’s putting our health at risk. So why did you move the weigh-ins in the first place? Because in his mind he wants more exciting fights. How are you gonna get more exciting fights? Give the fighters more time to recover, right? Which is also beneficial to us because it’s healthy. It’s healthy for us to replenish, but then he realizes ‘no, now people aren’t making weight more. So this actually was a bad move. Even though it’s healthier for the fighters, we’re gonna move it back to the night time’.
Because he interviewed a million fighters, I haven’t seen one that want it at night. It’s almost like you do an interview with him now and it’s not about the truth, it’s about his agenda. I’m weighing in in the morning.
Lorenzo [Fertita] kept [Dana] in check. I think he’s gonna run this thing into the ground. Cause now he’s just sayin’ whatever he wants to say, no one’s keepin’ him under wraps. He’s sayin’ whatever he wants to say. What fighter did you interview? ‘We got 550 fighters on the roster, we interviewed more than you,’. I don’t think so. I haven’t talked to a fighter that was interviewed. I think it’s about him.
It’s all about him and if it’s not about him he wants to get right in there. He’s got one foot out the door, just go, man.”
Ever since Dana White recently announced that the UFC will be going back to the afternoon weigh-ins, we’ve seen plenty of backlash from fighters a plenty.
In fact, you would be hard-pressed to find a fighter that has said they want this change despite White’s claims that many fighters have said they do want it. UFC lightweight, Al Iaquinta obviously being one of the many.
The reason that White wants to make this change back to the old format is obviously because of the recent influx of fighters missing weight which is a drastic difference from the old weigh-in format. Whether the issue is the format itself or not is up for debate but the sole purpose was never to make weight cuts easier but to give fighter’s more time to rehydrate and be healthier going into their fights. Which most all the fighters you’ve seen speak up have agreed that they liked this idea.
Iaquinta didn’t stop there though. He continued on about White’s ridiculous UFC 225 card fight positioning of CM Punk and Mike Jackson over top-ranked heavyweights, Alistair Overeem and Curtis Blaydes
“You’re the promoter, this is your job. Don’t put freakin’ Alistair Overeem on the undercard because he can’t sell pay-per-views when you’re the promoter! You brought in a guy…it’s like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you can’t f*ck that up. CM Punk shouldn’t be a thing you can f*ck up but he managed to fuck it up because [Mike Jackson] won the fight and now he’s talking shit about [Mike Jackson]. And he’s got Alistair Overeem on the undercard when the guy, [Curtis] ‘Razor’ Blaydes knocked him out, Razor Blaydes should be put on pay-per-view! He should be the guy right now. He should be upset, ‘where am I?! You’re puttin’ me on the undercard, I just finished Overeem and you’re talkin’ shit about [Mike Jackson]’. What’s goin’ on? I love this sport so much it kills me.”
Iaquinta is set to next face Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC Lincoln on August 25th.
